LETTERS – Look at their record before voting

It amazes me how many election candidates come out of the woodwork when voting time arrives.
I’m seeing names I’ve never heard of, suddenly appear as though by magic and it worries me.
Having been elected last year to represent the ward of Monks House, I’ve come to realise that being a district councillor is an endless job with no set working hours and no limits to what is expected of you.
I clearly stated when campaigning that I would be the one to get on and gets things done and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing, every day since.
Most people will be aware that I’m the one behind the revival of the Spalding Flower Parade, a momentous event that has already put Spalding back on the map. But more than that, it’s brought the whole community together and given so many people a purpose and a sense of belonging, both important values in today’s society. This, in my mind is an important part of being a councillor.
Sure, managing to get the odd pot hole repaired is also an important task but your work as a councillor doesn’t stop there. We, as candidates, can all make promises of change but promising and doing are two very different things.
By the very nature of what I do, I won’t have time to be out endlessly canvassing for votes and putting up ‘vote for me’ posters, I’m too busy doing what I was elected to do, getting things done for the community.
Before voting, people should closely examine the track record of candidates and look beyond their promises, look into what they have actually achieved. In the meantime, I will continue to do what I do best, get on and get things done
