LETTERS – Is asbestos a risk to the town?

I’ve noticed that work has at last begun on the old sorting office in town. It’s been standing derelict for about 30 years.
I understood that the reason no-one actually wanted to develop the site was due to asbestos in the building.
I’m a bit concerned that the workers are not wearing any protective clothing, not even helmets, and they seem to be stripping out the building.
They’re leaving piles of rubble everywhere and this could be contaminating the whole town with asbestos.
Is anyone looking into this? We could have a major disaster on our hands.
