LETTERS – I was wrong – Spalding has died

I have defended Spalding for 40 years. Buying goods and services locally when possible. Doing my bit.
Sadly, I was wrong. Spalding has died. It’s become a race to obliteration. All the signs are there. Charity, vape, bookmaker shops and European supermarkets. Public spaces infested with drunks and addicts. Town centre doorways used for many purposes including overnight accommodation. Oh joy…
A market that reflects the council’s neglect and serial indifference. An embarrassing shambles.
There’s always an excuse to do nothing. Financial incompetence – remember the Red Lion development? A saga of a fallen council. Playschool planning and economics quietly swept under the carpet when it failed.
Spalding deserves more. More performance and more delivery. Selling bootleg cigarettes and booze is the only growth industry in Spalding.
Perhaps we should let the bootleg retailers run the council? They couldn’t do a worse job.
