I refer to your letters column in the August 13 edition in which I ask a number of questions regarding the links, if any; between Sir John Hayes and Imogen Sinclair of London (Sir John is wonderful MP, letters August 6).
Sadly neither Sir John nor Imogen Sinclair has clarified the situation.
In the circumstances I felt obliged to do some research on my own behalf, the results are as follows:
- On her Twitter account Mrs Sinclair describes herself as “Work in Westminster doing political stuff”.
- Mrs Sinclair is listed as an ‘Officer’ of The Conservative Christian Fellowship which seeks to be “The Salt and Light of The Conservative Party”.
- During the course of 2019 Mrs Sinclair worked at The Centre for Social Justice (described by some as ‘Centre Right’ in its views). During this time she was a member of a working group chaired by Sir John Hayes MP. Indeed, Mrs Sinclair is listed as the lead researcher and author of the subsequently published paper.
- More recently Mrs Sinclair is listed in The House of Commons Register of Interests of Members Sectaries and Research Assistants of July 23 2020, as working for Danny Kruger MP (Conservative), a colleague of Sir John Hayes MP.
I for one am disappointed that Sir John did not feel it necessary to respond to my questions, but then it is a trait of MPs, of all colours, to ignore something knowing that it will be ‘old news’ soon and they can move on. However, for me it raises questions of integrity.
But I am even more annoyed that Mrs Sinclair has the temerity to write from London suggesting that she has “no vested interest” in supporting Sir John when, to me at least, the evidence suggests otherwise.
Sir John, I do not take kindly to being misled.
