LETTERS – I applaud those who attend

While important, military service should not come into consideration when it comes to whether people attend military commemorative events.
Today, when the world is a much more fragmented and dangerous place, we need to try to get as many people as possible to attend these events and ensure that we collectively avoid the mistakes of the past.
I fully applaud everyone who wishes to improve and enhance our local events and increase attendance, but the best way to do this is to work collectively and encourage people to attend rather than berating people who do not.
There is a saying “you catch more flies with honey”. I have worked with the Royal Naval Association for years as a volunteer and enjoyed many outreach events with them.
Just the other day I was talking about the fireworks event we did together, some years ago, the money we raised went to the RNA, we had a great time together and it was fun all being together for the same cause.
Encouraging people to attend politely is a much better way to approach these things, especially when we are asking those in full time employment and those with other responsibilities to attend.
