LETTERS – Fountain needs a referendum

It amazes me that we can spend half a million pounds on signs to get us to higher ground, ie the red and white signs that grace our road verges, yet we cannot afford to put a magnificent piece of architecture as our water fountain back in working order in its pride of place, the centre of town, or is the council intent on putting it out of sight of the majority of the public?

Ayscoughfee Gardens are a treasure but we need the fountain in town as a focal point where people can meet, sit down and have a natter.

Ayscoughfee Gardens is not the place to site it. Instead of hiding away something as historically important to Spalding as this is, let’s put it where it was meant to be, slap bang in the middle of town and working.

It would be a big feather in the council’s cap or can’t they see what an opportunity they have to make the town look and feel what it is – a nice, quaint little market town.

Let’s give the people a say and have a referendum on where it should go as I think it is too much of an important matter to be left to a few councillors who have no idea.

I would be willing to give a few pounds towards the siting and I am sure a lot of other people would as well.

Let’s get this one right SHDC.
