LETTERS – Did nothing to ease our fears

I have read your article regarding Spalding secondary schools and the coronavirus risk with interest.

I myself contacted Spalding Grammar immediately after the half term break as my son told me that he was sat next to another boy who had been on the school ski trip to Italy over the holiday and who was coughing badly in class.

The school was very dismissive regarding this and I had a voice message from my son’s head of house stating that these were “normal coughs” and nothing to be concerned about.

The message sent home by the headteacher did nothing at all to put our fears at ease.

The school is planning another trip to France and Belgium at the end of March to visit the WW1 battlefields, and no mention of cancellation has been made by the school.

Obviously if parents pull their children out of this trip they will lose all monies paid but it is reckless to say the least to allow this to go ahead.
