It’s true that the patch of land near the King’s Road footbridge, is neglected.
However, I think its use as proposed by the coffee firm Bocca Felice, could cause real problems (The Voice, August 14)
Pre-war, that was the site of a pleasant grass field, often with a few horses in it. One user at that time was my uncle George, a coal merchant, who delivered coal by using a horse and cart. During the war it housed a herd of seaside donkeys during the off season.
I don’t imagine such calming uses would be available nowadays, but the intensive activity proposed by Bocca Felice could cause a real traffic problem right in the middle of King’s Road.
Given the existing junctions at Winfrey Avenue and Sainsbury’s roundabout, what is part of a main road through Spalding could be regularly jammed by the addition.
As for the claim that Artificial Intelligence (AI) would be used for controlling the coffee service, I’m sure that that’s meant to impress, but is actually an exaggeration trading on most people’s lack of understanding of what AI really is.
A regular computer control would do the job quite well, which is probably why AI is not mentioned in the planning application.
I hope the planning committee rejects the application, but at the same time the council might consider how the area could be improved.
