I read with amusement that Wygate residents are being given the chance to have another say on a community “facility”.
The introduction of yet another noun to describe this shows that Coun Gambba-Jones is still behind it even though he has suddenly become shy, can’t think why that might be?
I wonder if the councillor would like to answer a question I have asked before but not received any answer to: why are the residents being restricted to a building?
Wygate has many young families who may prefer a safe play area similar to that in Pennygate or even something else.
I would also remind the councillor that following the public meeting in October 2013 he had many volunteers from the community willing to get stuck into a community project but due to his attitude towards anyone who had a different opinion to his, this support dwindled away and we are now 18 months further on but no further forwards.
Attempting to get support for a single option by dangling a £50 carrot is really desperate.
If any resident wants something other than a building, that may well be difficult to economically sustain, I recommend using the tactic suggested by Coun Porter a few weeks ago in connection with the local elections, i.e. spoil the survey form by writing what YOU want.
A community is built by giving choice via a democratic process, this is one of the key reasons why I am standing as an Independent candidate for the Wygate Ward in the district council elections on May 7.
