John Hayes asks readers to vote for Britain to leave the EU.
In his letter (March 17), he praises the Prime Minister twice but spurns his cogent case for the UK to remain within the EU in favour of the blandishments of Boris Johnson, whose over-inflated ego and all-consuming ambition for “the top job” is rivalled only by Donald Trump.
If John Hayes understood economic theory and the Law of Comparative Advantage, he’d realise why the UK is significantly better off economically within the EU – as, indeed, the Governor of the Bank of England has recently confirmed.
Were he to be arguing that, although the UK would be financially worse off leaving the EU, this is a price he, personally, would be willing to pay in order to create a fairer, more equitable, more healthy society (as some friends in
Scotland did prior their referendum on Independence), this would at least be an honest position.
However, instead, he is supporting the views of Iain Duncan Smith, the Minister who enthusiastically promoted the iniquitous “bedroom tax” and further cuts in benefits for the disabled.
I, for one, will not be voting for John Hayes again, and earnestly hope readers will ignore his siren call for Brexit.
