LETTER: Traffic has never been a problem

The leader of Lincolnshire County Council has recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the way Spalding’s waste tip is being managed by South Holland District Council.
Many residents in the Spalding and Holbeach area are unhappy with the inflexible click-and-book system of slots and a number of people have complained.
I can no longer decide on the spur of the moment to mow my lawn or trim my hedge and take the clippings to the garden waste container in West Marsh Road straightaway.
Instead, I have to go online and book a slot. And then I have to turn up at precisely the time allocated. There are rumours afoot that SHDC wishes to make the slot-booking system permanent after the Covid crisis has subsided.
I think that would be a bad idea and very inconvenient for residents who just want to drop off some rubbish, maybe on the way to work.
The local council has said that there is a problem with traffic building up on West Marsh Road, but in the 16 years I have lived in the area it has never been a problem whenever I have visited the tip.
