LETTER: Pool left me let down

I have just read your article about Spalding swimming pool being too cold.

I went there two weeks ago for a leisurely swim with a friend and found the water temperature comfortable, and managed around 25 lengths.

However, I visited again on September 16 and found it far too cold to swim in!

My friend and I managed about five lengths and then stopped due to it being too cold.

We noticed a lot of people around us standing around in the pool shivering and heard a lot of people saying how cold they felt too.

I then spoke to the lifeguard and asked him if the temperature shown was correct (it said 28). He replied that it is at the legal temperature and if it was any hotter the lane swimmers would find it too hot.

I then said to him that I had come there two weeks previous and it was fine to swim in.

His reply was that “our new boy had got the two pools mixed up and put the children’s pool at 28 and the main pool at 30 by mistake.”

Both me and my friend feel like we have wasted our money coming to the pool as we were only in there 15 minutes.

We had planned to go every week as part of a keeping fit but have now decided to go elsewhere.

I also noticed in your article that it states the temperature is checked every two hours. When I was in there at 8pm, the clock said it was last checked at 5pm.

I feel very let down.
