When out walking on Saturday morning I saw a van with its front passenger wing destroyed and a flat tyre with debris from the vehicle on the floor.
This vehicle was parked half on the path and half on the road.
It appears the vehicle had been hit while parked outside its property.
If this is the case, as it looks to be, it is more than likely to have been caused by someone trying to squeeze past, while a vehicle is coming from the other direction who had the right of way.
Although the driver who hit the parked vehicle is in the wrong or appears to be, the owner of the van is also partly responsible for his vehicle being hit.
He is not alone as many drivers park their cars half on half off the path wrongly thinking they are protecting their car, when in reality they are asking for trouble by creating a little more space on the road giving the approaching driver the idea he/she may just be able to squeeze through, but as on many occasions many lose their wing mirrors if folded in or not.
If drivers parked their vehicles where they should on the road, other drivers approaching their vehicle would clearly see they have no chance of squeezing through and would have to wait until oncoming traffic had passed before they could go.
This would have many benefits as it would slow traffic down in built up areas give pedestrians a little more space on the paths and insurance companies would also benefit as they would not have to pay extortionate prices for vehicle repairs.
