LETTER: Law change is not necessary

I read the article ‘Law change call amid new bid to save the old hospital’ with some interest.
I am a chartered surveyor, living in the Deeping area, and I have worked in the compulsory purchase field for a considerable number of years.
I must stress that I do not know any facts of the case other than those in your article. Nevertheless, my experience leads me to believe that the laws of compulsory purchase, whilst complex and sometimes confusing, are generally adequate, if used correctly and if the objectives of the council are sound.
I do not therefore think there is a need to change the law, rather that a clear strategy is required to progress a compulsory purchase order.
