LETTER: Drug dealers are only moved on

I have had problems over the last few weeks with drug dealing going on in my street next to and near my home.

I have been reporting those on foot as well as those turning up in cars to deal.

The police to be fair have been patrolling this area and done their bit.

They have stopped meeting here and that’s good news for me, but others who live nearby on different streets now have to deal with the same problem as all they have done is moved a little further away out of sight of me.

Is this really as good as it gets?

One of the top hotspots for drinking and drug use is Stepping Stone Bridge.

I walked over there around 1pm today and saw two lads the other side of the bridge and when I got near, I could smell the pungent smell of weed and saw a young lad smoking an oversized roll up clearly containing the weed.

I asked him if he was smoking weed, and he replied, “yeah man”.

This was broad daylight and he could not care less about who saw him, nor was he bothered by admitting to smoking it.

This bridge is very popular and used by local residents to enter town. My fear is if the police carry on letting them congregate here, intimidation, violence and attacks will occur more often and folk will be too scared to use the bridge.

This area needs hitting hard and regularly by the police to stamp this out, even more so at the weekends.
