LETTER: Do not ditch policy

Long Sutton Parish Council is astounded that South Holland District Council is considering ditching the policy relating to derelict buildings in the district when buildings such as the Bull Hotel in Long Sutton continue to decline and are not only an eyesore, but a skeleton of a once-beautiful building with a long history and a listed building which could have been restored many years ago had SHDC not continued to put obstacles in place.
SHDC has overseen the continual decline of all the town centres that were once lovely vibrant towns but are now blighted by the loss of once beautiful architecture, shops boarded up, businesses closed only to be replaced by HMOs, foreign shops, slot machine shops and the homelessness and anti-social behaviour.
If one policy was most needed it is one to bring our historic buildings back to life in all our towns and yes, there are one or two outside of Spalding.
Listed buildings and buildings registered by SHDC as buildings of historical interest are being turned into HMOS and substandard accommodation changing the towns beyond recognition.
The parish council asks district councillors to keep the policy, act upon it and do right by their electorate and not the developers and landlords who should be made to meet their obligations to keep our historic buildings and infrastructure.
