I am concerned that Coun Grocock is over-optimistic in his description of the works recently carried out on Spalding bus station.
The bus shelters may have been deep-cleaned, but their general aspect is still unattractive.
Yes, the asphalt looks fresh, but imagine arriving at the bus station for the first time?
There are no signs pointing to the railway station, the public toilets or the town centre, and no town plan. These do exist, but just not at the bus station, our main transport hub!
I miss any attempt to advertise the local buses, on which I am often the only passenger.
Black Cat run a good service, calling at the Johnson Hospital and Springfields in addition to the traditional stops, and they also run later in the day.
All the stops that I use now have excellent departure timetables, a huge improvement, but why are there no timetables at the bus station?
Delaine’s, who serve the bus station only once daily, do present a timetable, including their departures from Springfields, but there is a blank white notice board where I would expect to see a list of all departures, as well as which stand they leave from.
Can there be any other bus stations in the country that lack these basic facilities?
Have any councillors tried out the local buses to make their own observations?
If councillors got involved with all aspects of the community, they might apply their increased awareness to the benefit of the town.
Welcome to Spalding!
