Lester’s lovely break lights up league in five-star Pyramid win

An impressive 80 break from Lester Gaunt was the highlight of the week in the Spalding and District Snooker League.

Gaunt, who plays off an O42 handicap, made the stellar score in Division Three as his Pyramid B side defeated Consti J 5-1.

It’s now four wins from six for the Bourne side, who have started the season well.

Also in Division Three, early leaders Gosberton B continue to impress after a 5-1 home success over Consti A.

Wins from Nigel Goodwin (R21), Warren Driver (R21), Chris Mumby (R14) and Simon Slinger (R14) saw them home.

Second-placed Services D kept pace though, as they dispatched hosts Consti D 5-1.

Two of the top four clashed on the same night, too, with Gosberton C edging out Consti C 4-2.

Stuart Tamplin’s (scr) final frame win sealed that showdown.

Up in Division One, the top versus bottom clash went the way of the leaders as Pyramid A beat hosts Consti E 4-2.

Norman Vaughan (O14) and Bren Bowman (O56) both made 25 breaks in that one.

Club mates Pyramid C are now level with them on points after a 5-1 win over Pyramid D. Richard Skellett’s (O14) 28 break helped him clinch the match in frame four.

Fellow high-fliers Boundary A slipped up 4-2 at home to Bourne SC A, with cue ace Mark Gray reeling off breaks of 48 and 30 before finishing with a 25 clearance.

The best break in the top tier came from Shaun Lee (O28) as he made a 49 in Holbeach C’s 4-2 victory at Consti B.

But perhaps the best performance saw Neil Reynolds (O49) make a 32 break as he came from 82-0 down to beat Geoff Hemsil (R21) in Donington C’s 4-2 win at Services C.

In Division Two, Thomas Horspool (O42) starred with a 37 break as Sutton Bridge A beat Bourne SC B 4-2.
Charlie Mullane’s (R14) final frame win also helped Holbeach B see off Boundary B 4-2, while Ben Harding’s (O28) frame win sealed Holbeach E’s win at Consti F by the same scoreline.
