‘Lessons Learned’ review on Relief Road

A ‘Lessons Learned’ review into the handling of the Spalding Western Relief Road is to be launched by Lincolnshire County Council.

However the authority has told The Voice the inquiry will not involve members of the general public and only a summary of its findings will be made public.

The road has proven controversial with the planning permission granted for two sections, but the middle three sections are still unfunded.

The proposed route of the road was changed again last month following complaints from Bourne Road residents whose homes would have had to be bulldozed to make way for the road.

A county council statement said a summary of the ‘Lessons Learned’ inquiry will go to a future meeting of the authority’s Audit Committee.

Its Internal Audit Progress Report dated February 2020, came before that committee this week and states of the Relief Road: “A review of the progress of the SWRR route options between 2012 and 2019 to highlight any processes that could be improved to ensure decision making is better captured and communicated in the future.”
