Leading award for Hale-Smith at Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s end of season bash

James Hale-Smith was the big winner as Tydd St Giles Golf Club held their annual presentation night.

A total of 30 trophies were awarded to the members who won competitions throughout the year, with Hale-Smith doing enough to secure the Ken Doughty player of the year trophy.

He’s enjoyed great success in competitions over the campaign and has also secured a significant handicap reduction.

Division Three – 1st Roy Pesterfield 40pts; 2nd John Gamble 38pts (ocb); 3rd John Elliott 38pts.

Division Four – 1st Geoff Chappell 39pts (ocb); 2nd Nicholas Thorpe 39pts; 3rd Malcolm Miller 37pts.

Ladies’ section: October Bogey competition – 1st Julie Perry -3; 2nd Sue Racey -3; 3rd Maria Taylor-Vassall -7.

Spalding Golf Club

The team of Liam Pucill and Lee Nicholson secured overall victory in the Gents Winter League at Spalding Golf Club on Sunday.

They headed three teams on the same score of 46 nett at the Surfleet course, with Stephen Camm and Mark Cooley second and Stuart Armstrong and Derek Murphy third.

One back on 45 nett were David Fitter and Nigel Prue (fourth), Garry Harrison and Steve Hodgson (fifth) and Paul Greenaway and Martyn Johnson (sixth).

  • A field of 93 players took part in Spalding’s Limited Club (3 clubs and a putter) Senior Turkey Trot competition.

It was a tight competition, with Ian Jude (39 points) edging out John Beba (38 points) to take top spot.

Geoff Skinner was third after pipping Keith Cross on countback (37 points), with Peter Schofield (36 points) fifth and David Bark (also 36 points) sixth.
