Late goals deny Spalding United and Holbeach United maximum points

Spalding United and Holbeach United picked up draws against potential title rivals on Saturday – but both will feel like they should have taken maximum points.

The Tulips drew 2-2 against Gresley in Evo-Stik NPL Division One South having led 2-0, while the Tigers were pegged back to 1-1 by hosts Newport Pagnell Town having gone ahead in the first half.

At the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, a third-minute opener from Nathan Whitehead and another strike from top scorer Bradley Wells (60) put table-topping Spalding in command.

But Gresley, who (like Spalding) have yet to lose in the league this season, pulled one back through ex-Holbeach hitman Courtney Meade (68), before levelling the scores in the final minute through a Pearson Mwanyongo penalty.

To make matters worse for Dave Frecklington’s side, defender Neal Spafford was sent off for two yellow cards in the incident.

But the draw doesn’t stop them topping the table, with second-placed Shaw Lane also held.

In the ChormaSport UCL Premier Division, Holbeach looked set to pull off a fine win a Willen Road when Tyler Wright put them ahead on 22 minutes.

That’s a lead they held all the way up until the 82nd minute, when Adam Pryke struck the leveller.

Josh Ford then saw red for two bookable offences, but the scores remained level at full time.

That leaves Tom Roberts’ unbeaten Tigers fourth in the table, three points behind leaders Peterborough Sports.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox remain top of the table after a 2-1 home win over Deeping Rangers Reserves at Broad Lane.

Harrox, last year’s champions, remain unbeaten with seven wins and two draws from nine games.

Holbeach United Reserves are seventh after beating Wisbech Town Reserves 2-1 at Carter’s Park, just ahead of Pinchbeck United in ninth.

Ian Dunn’s side were 3-1 winners at Peterborough ICA Sports.

Crowland Town were also on winning form, as they edged out hosts Langtoft United 2-1.

Down in Division One, Moulton Harrox Reserves kept their 100 per cent record going with an 8-1 success at Baston and are now top.

Sutton Bridge United slip to third following their 0-0 draw at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves.

It was another tough day for Spalding United Reserves, though, as they were drubbed 14-0 at Glinton and Northborough.

Meanwhile, Long Sutton Athletic progressed in the Chairman Championshipe Shield with a 3-0 victory over Netherton Reserves.

Player/boss Matt Cawthorn, Sam Moses and Damien Ramm got their goals at London Road.
