Late dramas mar Tigers’ good performances

Holbeach United manager Danny Clifton has been left pleased with performances in the last week but late goals cost them before a penalty shoot out defeat on Tuesday night.
Saturday’s game at home to Holland in the Thurlow Nunn Division One North went as the previous Wednesday’s game against Parsons Drove, a 2-2 draw with the Tigers conceding a late equaliser.
Against the in-form Drove, Jack Prentice scored both goals only for Holbeach to be pegged back each time.
They fell behind at Carter’s Park on Saturday, but Josh Ling brought them back on level terms before Connor Pilbeam gave the Tigers the lead.
Despite being down to ten men after Holland’s Keelen Sorrell was shown a second yellow card, the visitors were able to snatch a point.
“It was a great performance once again,” said Clifton. “We were gutted to concede late on, but it doesn’t detract from the overall performance.”
Holbeach faced the long trip to Fakenham for a League Cup tie on Tuesday night.
In a tight encounter, neither side could find a breakthrough as the game finished 0-0.
It was Fakenham who progressed winning the penalty shoot-out 4-2.
“It was a superb effort from the whole squad,” Clifton said. “I thought we’d done enough over the 90 minutes to win the game, but it wasn’t to be.”
It’s back to league action for the Tigers this weekend and another long away trip.
They travel to Ipswich to take on Whitton United.
Holbeach remain seventh in the table, six points off a play-off spot, but with games in hand on those above them.
