Kingston back to bite Pinchbeck United as Huntingdon halt winning run

PINCHBECK UTD 1
HUNTINGDON TOWN 1

Player/boss Ian Dunn refused to be too downbeat after seeing Pinchbeck United’s nine-game winning streak in ChromaSport UCL Division One come to an end on Saturday.

Despite taking an early lead through Nick Bishop – who converted one of many great Tyler Wright deliveries at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field – a former favourite netted to earn opponents Huntingdon Town a share of the spoils.

Corey Kingston, who was allowed to leave the table-topping Knights a few months back, capitalised on a defensive mix-up to net a leveller on 23 minutes.

And, although Pinchbeck  had the better of the chances, they had Lady Luck to thank for their point after Jake Waterworth blazed a penalty over 20 minutes from time.

Dunn, whose side are now five points clear at the top of the table, admitted that a draw was probably the right result on the day.

“I’m a little frustrated,” admitted the striker. “We didn’t deal with a ball into the box and Corey pounced to scramble the ball in.

“They didn’t really hurt us much, if I’m honest, but they certainly made life difficult for us.

“I could say that we didn’t really get going on the day, but sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition. Maybe they stopped us playing.

“They were very solid and compact defensively, so you have to credit them and say they deserved their point. We opened them up quite a few times and Tony Edwards missed a huge chance to give us a 2-0 lead early on.

“I do think we missed the creativity of Andrew Tidswell and Liam Ogden on the day. But you have to accept that you can’t win every game.

“We knew that we’d drop points eventually, so perhaps we need to be pleased that the run ended with a draw, not a defeat.

“If you look at the results elsewhere, it would have been a good day to win.

“But we were in the dressing room afterwards feeling devastated about conceding a goal.

“That’s a great attitude and I’m sure the lads won’t let this result bother them.”

With Rushden and Higham United losing, Raunds Town are now second behind the Knights, who are five points ahead with a game in hand.

Pinchbeck: Swan, Gordon, A Murrell, Jack Smith, Brooks, Bishop, Wright, Shipley, Josh Smith, Maltby, Edwards. Subs used: Buzas, Dunn, Sergeant. Not used: Shackleton, Lovelace.

Attendance: 77.
