Kearns confident that Spalding Town will come good at Lindum

In-form pace ace Charlie Kearns feels that Spalding Town’s slow start to the Lincs ECB Premier League campaign is just a temporary blip.

The fast bowler reckons that there have been plenty of positives that he and his team-mates can take from defeats against Woodhall Spa, Bracebridge Heath and Market Rasen.

Kearns also thinks that Town will prove a difficult side to beat when the new-look team gels together.

He said: “We would have liked to have done better on Saturday, but credit to Rasen, they put in a solid performance. It just goes to show that there are no easy games in this league.

“Obviously we’ve got a few new players this year and it takes a few weeks to build a game plan that is going to best utilise everyone’s strengths, but I do think we are almost there.

“Once we get the first win of the season under our belts we will be away and, with the players we have, we will be a tough team for anyone to beat.

“I think there have been plenty of positives to take out of the first three games and despite three losses we are still only sitting in ninth as we have still been able to pick up decent points.

“There is still a long way to go in the season and we have the players to win plenty of games.”

Having taken 4-45 in Saturday’s six-wicket loss to Rasen, Kearns was one of the few players to come out of the game with praise.

Although he’s missing Saturday’s trip to Lincoln Lindum (3pm), the towering ace does believe there are a number of match-winners among the Spalding ranks.

He added: “I feel like the ball is coming out well at the moment and am confident I have some match-winning performances in me. I know there are a number of other players in the team who are confident they can do the same.

“We have a team this year where there are a number of people who will relish the opportunity to stand up and help turn around the start we’ve had, so I am more than confident that over the next few weeks we will be able to get back to winning ways.

“With Lindum having suffered the same start we have, I am sure it will be a very close game and I am backing us to come out on top this weekend.”
