A cancer charity fundraiser is taking on his biggest challenge yet – a 550km bike ride with only two and a half months training.
Jonathan Rons (48) will be joining 44 others as they cycle from Geneva to Nice in four days from September 22.
Jonathan, who lives in Deeping St Nicholas, lost his wife Jane to breast cancer in 2012. She was 34.
Since then he and his two sons Oliver (14) and Benjamin (12) have pledged to raise money to support those battling and those finding a cure for the disease.
They have done a whole host of events to raise money including a Zumbathon, sponsored walks and sponsored runs.
Jonathan has run several marathons in the past and completed the Three Peaks Challenge but decided he needed to do something that was a little easier on his body.
He said: “I didn’t have a bike until July 1, so it’s a real challenge to make sure I’ve done all the training I need before I go.
“I’m training hard and have been out and about on my bike throughout July.
“The boys have been a great support and Oliver is getting a bike so he can come out with me when I’m training.”
Jonathan is hoping to raise £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support through the bike ride and so far through his Just Giving page has collected £1,900.
He is joining an organised group of cyclists which means he will have the proper support needed for a challenge of this kind.
