Jodie’s Honduras project

A Spalding Grammar School pupil is getting on her bike to raise money to allow her to teach in Honduras.

Jodie Rhodes (17) is looking to teach English in the central American country of Honduras for 12 months from September as part of her gap year.

She’s gone through a long selection process to be one of 90 children selected as part of the charity Project Trust’s initiative to teach young people in poorer countries.

Jodie, who hopes to eventually wants to study psychology at university, was inspired to take up the challenge as part of a gap year.

She’ll live with a local family or with another person involved with the charity.

And ahead of the trip she’s looking to raise £7,000 and as part of that is planning to bike 100 miles in June.

Jodie said: “I really love helping people and travel is so important to me.

“If I could make a difference to at least one child’s life; be it teaching them to introduce themselves in English, helping them to pass an important exam or even just offering emotional support to get them through a particularly tough period in their life, my time would be a success.”

If you donate to Jodie before the end of April, the Scottish charity will get an extra 50 per cent of money donated to Jodie by donating at the link https://virtual.thekiltwalk.co.uk/fundraising/ScotlandsVirtualKiltwalk2021-JodieRhodes

Afterwards you can donate at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JodieRhodes
