Jail ‘inevitable’ for Spalding man who stabbed ex-partner

A Spalding man faces an “inevitable” jail sentence after he admitted wounding his former partner with a kitchen knife.

Richard Admans, 59, of Marsh Road, was arrested following an incident in Little London, Spalding, on March 19.

Lincolnshire Police closed the road and said the victim had suffered injuries which were caused by a knife but were not thought to be life threatening.

Admans was remanded into custody and appeared at Lincoln Crown Court where he admitted a charge of unlawfully wounding Emily Admans on March 19 this year.

He also pleaded guilty to a second offence of making a threat to kill Emily Admans on the same date.

Prosecution barrister Noel Philo said those pleas were acceptable to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Jeremy Janes, defending Admans, asked for sentence to be adjourned for the preparation of a Probation report.

Mr Janes told the court: “Mr Admans has little recollection of this incident. However, he has always, as in his interview, admitted being the person responsible.

“He had the two the kitchen knives with him and he caused the principal wound to the abdomen of the victim.

“It was a long relationship of some 20 years that had ended relatively recently, and this was out of character for him.”

Judge Simon Hirst agreed to adjourn sentence for the preparation of a Probation report but warned Admans to prepare for a jail sentence.

“You have pleaded guilty to serious matters,” Judge Hirst told Admans. “Please don’t take the fact that I have adjourned for a report to mean you won’t receive a custodial sentence.

“People who use knives and inflict injuries with knives inevitably receive immediate custodial sentences.”

Admans was remanded back into custody and will be sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on October 4.
