Spalding Town’s under-15s progressed into the third round of the Lincs Cup with a fine win over hosts Boston under-15s.
On a rainy evening at Boston’s Mayflower sports ground, Town skipper Josh Lawrence lost the toss and was asked to bowl first.
Stef Gostic bowled a tidy opening spell but it was the captain who made the early inroads, running out non striker Tetther for a duck thanks to a touch onto the stumps at the bowlers’ end.
Lawrence (2-8) followed this up by bowling Ward for three and then took a sharp return catch to leave the hosts on a precarious 12-3.
Danny Longley was next to go, hitting a short ball from Jon Manton into the safe hands of Wide at cover. Patrick Harrington then bowled Anthony for two to leave Boston in the mire at 30-5.
Opener Goodfellow continued to bat well, reaching 25 before falling LBW to Henry Wardman (2-4), who also dismissed Butt in an accurate and rapid spell. The home side managed to bat out the whole of their 18 overs to reach 78-9.
Spalding openers Jordan Butcher (40 not out) and Harrington (35 not out) continued their excellent form this season, compiling an unbeaten stand of 82 with Harrington finishing the game with a second huge maximum.
Town face either Bourne or Sleaford in the next round of the knockout competition.
