Hussey impressed by Holbeach United’s showing in Wellingborough win

Wellingborough Town 1
Holbeach United 2

Danny Hussey saluted the performance of his Holbeach United side as they earned a great 2-1 win at Wellingborough Town on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Josh Ford and Liam Adams fired the Tigers to three precious Uhlsport UCL Premier Division side at the Dog and Duck to move themselves within six points of leaders Shepshed Dynamo.

Wellingborough, who had Ryan Lovell sent off late on, are a notoriously tough nut to crack, making the standard of Holbeach’s performance even more pleasing for Hussey.

And, despite being fifth in the table, the Tigers boss is happy for his side to keep flying under the radar in the title race.

Hussey said: “It was a really, really good performance and a great result.

“It sounds silly, but I’m actually disappointed that we only won 2-1 – that’s how good we were.

“For the amount of pressure we put them under, to only score twice is almost unfair on us.

“We absolutely battered them in the first half, so to go in at 0-0 was a travesty.

“But we always looked solid at the other end too, with Nick Jackson and Jon Fairweather really impressing.

“Everyone was superb on the day, I can’t praise them enough.

“I also have to credit their attitude, too. We know from past meetings that this team and their management will try and make things as difficult for you as they possibly can.

“But the game was just so one-sided that even their bench couldn’t really argue with the result.

“Don’t get me wrong, Wellingborough are a strong and physical side – a very good one too.

“That’s why I’m so pleased. I know how hard it is to come here and get any kind of result.

“But, to win as well as we did shows just how well the lads played – all credit to them.”

“It’s now very tight at the top. Still, nobody is really talking about us as a title contender, so we’ll just keep going about our business in a very quiet manner and let our football do the talking.”

Tigers: Drury, Drury, Wilson, T Smith, N Jackson, Fairweather, A Jackson, Avis (J Smith), Tinkler, Ford (Oliver), Lockie (Bird), Adams. Subs: Nicholson, Lovelace.
