Hussey happy Holbeach United’s draw against ‘best team in the league’

Danny Hussey hailed his Holbeach United side after seeing them pick up a 0-0 draw against a Loughborough University outfit he believes are the “best in the league” on Saturday.

The Tigers, thrashed by their fellow Uhlsport UCL Premier Division title hopefuls 5-0 on the opening day of the season, had the better chances to win the game at the Loughborough University Stadium.

Both teams had goals disallowed, with boss Hussey impressed with how his side – who are now unbeaten in 13 games – performed on the day.

He said: “I thought it was a very good performance from the lads against what I believe to be the best team in the UCL.

“They are a good footballing side and had two goals disallowed for offiside, but overall I thought we created the better chances – and had a goal disallowed ourselves.

“We forced their keeper into a number of saves, while Ricky Drury didn’t have a lot to do. They’ll see it differently, but I think that we were the better side on the day.

“We looked pretty comfortable at the back, but just couldn’t find that goal.

“That being said, I have to be pleased with a draw. I don’t think anybody is going to come here and win this season, they’re very strong in possession.

“Overall a draw doesn’t hurt us too much and we held on to our unbeaten run, which is a boost.”

The draw leaves Holbeach in fifth, one place behind Loughborough in fourth.

Tigers: Drury, Wilson, T Smith, Fairweather, N Jackson, Tinkler, A Jackson, J Smith, Adams, Frew, Bird. Subs used: Setchell, Withers, Lockie. Not used: Lovelace.
