Huge cancer donations from the people of Crowland

Crowland Cancer Fund has held its annual presentation evening and gave £30,000 raised during the previous year to various cancer related charities.

A spokesman said: “Despite the fact that our furniture warehouse closed in August, which reduced our earning ability, the total sum given away was £30,000 which was given in equal amounts to the following: Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, St Barnabas Hospice Care, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Peterborough City Hospital Chemotherapy Unit, Stamford Hospital Lymphedema Clinic and Addenbrookes’ children’s oncology unit.”

They continued: “We now rely on our shop at 14 East Street, Crowland to provide the bulk of our funds which is supplemented by donations direct from the public.

“However, the shop cannot function without donations which are not always forthcoming following the rise of selling pages. We do not sell clothing and shoes but tend to operate as a shop where it is possible to buy glassware, ornaments, DVDs, CDs, crockery, cutlery, household linen and curtains, children’s toys and games, jigsaw puzzles, books both for grown ups and children and some small electrical items which are PAT tested before sale.”

The fund is also looking for volunteers to staff the Crowland shop for half-days during the week.
