Hosts needed for Spalding town twinning exchange

A twinning group which has a 58-year bond with a French town is looking for new families to enjoy its benefits.

Spalding’s Friends of Sezanne group is hosting a visit from its continental counterparts in May, but needs more people to come forward to welcome the visitors into their homes.
Chairman of the group Keith Savage said: “Three new families have recently become involved with the Sezanne group and we have very little spare capacity to host them and would love to hear from people here who would like to get involved.”
Mr Savage has been involved with the group for a large part of its existence and says the twinning is a great way to learn about the culture of another family, as it allows you to immerse yourself in everyday family life in a way that is not possible on a package holiday.
He says he has seen many children and adults get a lot out of the exchange visits, which take place each year in alternate countries.
This year it is Spalding’s turn to host guests from Sezanne, and during their extended weekend visit they will be taken to see the sights around the area, such as Sandringham and Hunstanton, as well as enjoy an official reception where entertainment will be provided by the ukulele orchestra.
Next year, those involved with the Spalding group will visit Sezanne, which is in the heart of the French Champagne region.
Mr Savage said the group is open to anyone of any age and at the moment there are around 30 members.
As well as the annual exchange trips, the group also holds social events for members throughout the year.
