Holbeach United rue their luck as they fall further adrift after harsh Heanor defeat

Holbeach United 0 Heanor Town 3

Luckless Holbeach United fell deeper into the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North mire with a 3-0 defeat to Heanor Town on Saturday.

Jordan Haywood, Jack Dando and Jamie Sleigh got the goals for the visitors at Carter’s Park, leaving Danny Clifton’s Tigers 15 points from safety with 11 games left.

The scoreline was harsh on Clifton’s side, with Josh Hales seeing an early penalty saved, Alis Hallaci missing an open goal and the same player rattling both posts with a shot.

“It was incredibly frustrating,” said a deflated Clifton. “I’m running out of ways to talk about these defeats.

“We should have been well ahead by half time. We’ve missed a penalty and an open goal, seen a shot come back off both posts and had multiple shots cleared off the line.

“Then they scored from a scuffed shot that deflected in to lead at half time, when it could easily have been 5-1 to us.

“These young lads ran all day and never tired, but they left the pitch wondering what we have to do to win a game.

“I think it speaks volumes that the fans clapped our lads off the pitch. I was looking up to the heavens wondering if it is all worth it, then to see and hear that happen really shows we’re on the right track.

“The feedback afterwards was good too, so what we have to do now is keep on producing that kind of performance and the results will come.”

Tigers: Berezowski, Wilson, Chester, Carter, Bedar, Harris, Dalliday, Wirkowski, Baughan, Hallaci, Hales. Subs used: Blake, Gow, Foster. Not used: Camfield, Warrington.
