Holbeach ready for two tough away matches

Holbeach United are set for a firm examination of their ChromaSports UCL Premier Division title credentials next week with two tough away games.

The Tigers go on the hunt for points at Desborough on Saturday and Yaxley the following Tuesday.

After last Saturday’s scheduled match with Daventry was postponed due to a water-logged pitch, Holbeach find themselves in fourth after wins for Wisbech Town and Deeping.

Holbeach have games in hand on all of the above teams, including four on Newport Pagnell who are six points above them.

One of those games in hand is against fifth-placed Yaxley who are just a point behind the Tigers.

Holbeach will be also looking for a bit of revenge after Yaxley beat them 3-0 in the League Cup semi-final earlier this month.

Manager Seb Hayes said: “It’s going to be tough particularly with both being away.

“Our last proper full game we lost against Yaxley and we really weren’t ourselves.

“That was because Yaxley played the way they wanted and we didn’t get on top and play the way we want to.

“When we do that normally we will get a positive result.

“We were looking at the cup competitions coming into the season so we were very disappointed by the defeat but we can look to put that right on Tuesday.

“But we also can’t take our eye off the Desborough game.

“They’re a decent team and it doesn’t matter what time of year you go to Desborough, in whatever conditions it is always a tough game and we will have to put in a good performance.”

Last week’s postponement means that Holbeach will once again be without the suspended Mitch Griffiths who has been waiting several weeks to play.

“We really needed to play the games to get the suspensions finished,” continued Hayes. “We’re up to full strength in terms of injuries but still have a few suspended.

“I’d have rather we’d have played to get Mitch back.

“Hopefully we will play this weekend and then Mitch will be ready for selection again for the Yaxley game.”
