New Holbeach United manager Darren Jarvis is already feeling right at home at Carter’s Park.
Jarvis replaced John Chand as Tigers chief less than two weeks ago, but toasted his first win in the job against Newport Pagnell on Saturday.
The former Peterborough Northern Star boss has been delighted with the response he and assistant Tom Roberts have received from the Holbeach players – and is already excited about his future with the club.
But Jarvis is also fully focused on finishing the UCL Premier Division season as well as they possibly can. The Tigers still have a decent chance of finishing in the top three, despite Wednesday night’s shock 1-0 loss to Sleaford Town.
Jarvis wants his side to get back to winning ways against Wellingborough Town at Carter’s Park on Saturday (3pm), but has warned his players that every side in the league wants to take their scalp.
“I’ve been really pleased with how the lads have responded,” said Jarvis. “Me and Robbo couldn’t have asked for any more from them in the games we’ve had.
“I’m confident we can get the best out of what is a very talented group of players.
“There are players here that any UCL side would love to have. But that goes both ways – every team wants to come here and beat us.
“I do still think that a top three finish is possible. But what the rest of this season will do is give us a platform to build on for next season, which everyone at the club is very excited and positive about.”
Having added Charley Sanders and Daniel Worthington to the squad already, Jarvis is hopeful of snapping up a few more players ahead of Saturday’s clash with Wellingborough.
Boston United youngster Corey Newman, who impressed in a spell with Grantham Town earlier this season, is on his radar, while deals for Wisbech Town defender Luke Wilson and Northern Star midfielder Jack Marsden should gather pace in the next few days.
Craig Parker also returns to the squad following a holiday, but winger Lee Beeson won’t feature after re-joining Spalding United .
Beeson will remain dual registered with the Tigers, but Jarvis admits the move suits all parties.
He added: “I love Lee as a player and he’s been brilliant in the first two games. If it was solely down to football reasons, he’d be staying here.
“We’re having to make a few changes at the club and Spalding have an exciting end to their season, so the move suits all of us. It’s a great opportunity for him at Spalding and he leaves the club very amicably. Maybe we’ll see him play for us again. I hope so.”
