Holbeach United will be at full strength for friendly finale

Holbeach United are looking to field their strongest-possible side in their pre-season finale against Lincoln United on Saturday (3pm).

The Carter’s Park clash against the Evo-Stik League First Division South side is the last friendly the Tigers will face before they kick off their UCL Premier Division campaign at Desborough Town.

Tigers number two Tom Roberts knows his side are in for a tough test against Lincoln, who play in the same league as the Spalding United side that beat them 2-0 last Saturday.

He said: “It’ll be just as hard as the Spalding game – but that’s the kind of test we want at this stage.

“It’ll be a good game and we’ll be fielding as strong a side as we can.”

Meanwhile, Roberts has played down talk that Boston United keeper Sam Vince will join the Tigers on a three-month loan.

The Tigers’ number two admits that Holbeach hold an interest in Vince, with number one Ricky Drury set to miss the first few games of the season.

Roberts told The Voice that he is keen to bring Vince to the club, but expects that it would be on a much shorter deal.

“Sam Vince is a top keeper,” admitted Roberts. “We are interested in a short-term deal, maybe for a few games.

“I’ve seen people say we’ve signed him on a three month deal. That’s a bit premature, but ultimately it’ll be up to Boston United.”

Roberts has also revealed that winger Frazer Bayliss is mulling over a move to Carter’s Park, while fellow wideman Louis Hamilton’s move to the club is also still in the balance. Hamilton will definitely feature on Saturday after scoring on his debut at March Town on Tuesday.

The jury is also out on another potential target, ex-Pinchbeck United striker Louis Saebe, who is on trial from Boston United.
