Hat-trick hero Tidswell inspires five-star Holbeach United victory at Cogenhoe

Andrew Tidswell notched a terrific treble as Holbeach United romped to a 5-1 win at Cogenhoe United in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division on Saturday.

The player/assistant boss buried direct free kicks on 24 and 57 minutes, before rounding off his hat-trick with a goal in open play 20 minutes from time.

Forwards Jordan Thomas (46) and Josh Ford (81) also bagged to fire the Tigers 5-0 to the good, before a late penalty from Jack Bown (82) gave the Cooks a consolation.

The emphatic victory ends a run of poor performances from Tom Roberts’ side, who were handed another slice of positive news on Friday.

It has been decided that Holbeach should replay their game at Rothwell Corinthians, which was abandoned on 71 minutes due to an injury to left back Nick Jackson.

The Tigers were trailing 4-1 at the time and it had been expected that the hosts would be granted the three points. That match will now be their penultimate match of the season on April 26 (7.45pm).

Elsewhere, Spalding United’s Evo-Stik League First Division South game at Carlton Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

After Saturday’s results, the Tulips remain in eighth place – but they are now six points off the final play-off position and have played a game more than fifth-placed Lincoln United.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, it was a good day for South Holland trio Moulton Harrox, Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United Reserves.

Harrox remain top after stretching their unbeaten league run to 19 matches with a 5-1 victory at Uppingham Town.

Another hat-trick from top scorer Ollie Maltby and further strikes from Bobby Patterson and Ian Bradbury were enough for Dave Panton’s side, who are now two points clear with two games in hand after second-placed Whittlesey Athletic could only draw 0-0 at Netherton.

Pinchbeck United are fifth after enjoying a 5-3 home victory over Langtoft United, while Holbeach United beat Crowland Town 4-0 at Carter’s Park.
