The two G&S Racing riders TJ Toms and Milo Ward were contesting the sixth and seventh rounds of the 2021 Pirelli National Superstock championship at Thruxton over the weekend – and both riders rode well to claim their best results in the current campaign.
After free practice and qualifying Toms started the first race from row eight for the Wyberton team and made good progress through the field to complete the 15 lap affair in 22nd position, equalling his result from Brands Hatch.
Toms set off from the ninth row for race two on Sunday and once again made excellent progress picking up places throughout the race and on the penultimate lap was running in 19th position which he held to the chequered flag.
But in a twist of fate two riders were disqualified due to a technical infringement and Toms was elevated up to 17th place, just two places away from a points finish.
Meanwhile, Ward started the first race on Saturday from the 11th row and despite still riding with the after effects of his arm injury he worked his way up to 31st on the final lap.
Ward was placed on row 11 for the start of race two but got away to a great start and was quickly up into 29th position.
He picked up places during the remainder of the race and crossed the finish line in 26th place.
He too benefitted from the two riders who were disqualified and was awarded 24th place on the final results sheet.
Team manager Tom Fisher said: “What a weekend, we had very mixed weather conditions to deal with at Thruxton but we came through it to pick up our best results of the season so far.
“We made some big changes to the bikes after Saturday’s race to find a better setting for the conditions and it proved to be the right way to go. We just need to work on our qualifying position as starting from further up field would be so beneficial to us. Both riders rode well and we are not far away from our goal of points finishes.
“I welcome another new sponsor to our team, Leek Transmission Centre Ltd and look forward to seeing them at some of our future races this year. I also extend my thanks to all our loyal sponsors and supporters and the team and riders who have worked so hard this weekend.”
The next race is at Donington Park over the weekend of August 13/15.
