Group heading into businesses to help mental health

The University of Lincoln has joined a mental health pilot scheme in South Holland.

Coffee and Company is the initiative of HW Lincs (HWL) and up to 300 employees in the district could benefit.

Currently, Crowland Pharmacy, Moulton Bulb Company and the University of Lincoln National Centre for Food Manufacturing in Holbeach are all taking part.

The free scheme is open to other businesses interested in helping to improve the mental health of their workforce.

Developed in association with Shine mental health charity and Lincolnshire County Council.

The need for help was identified during a Healthwatch suicide prevention project in 2021.

“We often heard that people felt they couldn’t take time off work to seek help,” said HWL project officer Tom Cassidy.

“So, we are going to them. With the blessing of thoughtful management teams, we are visiting workplaces to try to help people find ways to improve their mental health.”

Guidance offered during sessions can cover a range of topics, from debt to stress and loneliness.

“The idea of leaving your personal life at the door when you go into work is an impossible ask that is, thankfully, being relegated to the last century,” said Tom.
