A new housing company to increase the supply of homes in South Holland now has a name.
South Holland District Council launched the company earlier this year and asked readers to come up with a suitable name for it.
The council received multiple entries but two caught the judges’ eye – The Welland Housing Company’ and Welland Housing.
After much conferring, the decision has been taken to use the Welland name and call the company Welland Homes Limited.
The winning entrants – Tim Stoodley and Debbie Preston – each receive four tickets to see a film of their choice at the South Holland Centre in Spalding.
Tim Stoodley, of Gosberton, said: “I’m delighted to have won. I chose the name because the River Welland goes hand in hand with South Holland.”
Debbie Preston, of Spalding, added: “Having Welland in the name seemed liked an obvious choice, but I never thought I would win.”
Coun Christine Lawton, portfolio holder for housing, said: “We would like to thank everyone who entered the competition, there were some very creative entries.
“We liked the Welland aspect as the river is such a key part of our district.
“We hope that in time the company will become the landlord of choice in South Holland.”
The company was launched in March to meet the demands and needs of a growing population.
The £15.2million project, funded by a mixture of loans and money from the council’s reserves, will see quality accommodation built across South Holland.
The first phase of the scheme will see 142 much-needed new homes built over the next two years.
