What is believed to be the UK’s oldest amateur dramatic society is on the lookout for new members.
Last year the Spalding Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society (SADOS) turned 150.
For obvious reasons, however, they weren’t able to do much by way of celebrations for their special anniversary.
Now the group is looking firmly to the future.
SADOS chairman Jodie Schweikhardt said: “We are proud to be the oldest am dram society of its kind in the UK.
“In order to move our society forward and to keep ourselves up to date with the times, we need not only new members, but also new members on our committee.
“In particular we are keen to hear from you if you’ve a talent for fundraising or for keeping websites fresh and interesting. We also need more members who are keen on making sets and scenery.
“As theatres are preparing to reopen, now is the time to get in touch.”
At the moment SADOS is looking to move everything it had planned for 2020 to later this year, or the beginning of 2022 but a lot depends on when the South Holland Centre reopens.
“We still intend to have our 150th anniversary celebration exhibition at Ayscoughfee Museum,” Jodie continued. “This was supposed to be held last September, and will be rescheduled once we know when the museum is scheduled to open to the public once again.
“I would say for most folk the best part of being involved with SADOS is being involved in productions, whether that’s on stage or behind the scenes.
“The community feeling and the social aspect of being with friends throughout the rehearsal process and looking forward to seeing each other every week.
“Then the actual show is such an accomplishment for the whole team, during show week everyone is buzzing at the theatre. For those acting, it can be an escape from reality for a while too, getting to play a character and telling their story to the audience. “
