Game suddenly closes Spalding branch

A gaming shop at Springfields has suddenly closed its doors.

The Spalding branch of GAME announced on Twitter yesterday (Tuesday, July 7) it was to be its last day trading ‘for now’.

The Voice understands the six staff were given less than 24 hours notice of the closure and were left in the dark for the reasoning.

Yesterday the store posted on its Twitter account to say: “Sadly today was our last day for GAME Spalding for now… On behalf of the team, we want to say thank you to you our valued customers for shopping with us and we hoped you enjoyed our great customer service. Keep on gaming and keep an eye on our twitter for updates.”

When a customer asked about a game they’d reserved with the store, the branch responded: “Will notify updates on twitter when we know.

“All we know is that any customers who have pre-order deposits for games releasing this week will have their copy transferred to Game QueensGate in Peterborough for collection and are being notified via email/sms. Hope this helps for now.”

A spokesman for Game initially told The Voice that branches were closing and re-opening in Sports Direct stores, but when asked if that was the case for the Springfields branch, the spokesman said: “I have been informed that the store has now unfortunately closed.”
