Fund set up in memory of breast cancer survivor who died in road accident

A fundraiser set up for the family of a woman who died in a road traffic collision has raised more than £2,000 in less than a day.

Teresa Walton has been named locally as the cyclist who died following a collision with a tractor in Weston Hills on Tuesday evening (October 13).

For the past two years she’d been raised money for Breast Cancer Now after being diagnosed with the condition following a routine mammogram in July 2019. She was given the all clear on New Year’s Eve later that year.

Events she took part in included cycling 300km in March and the Great North Run virtually in 2020 alongside friend Sarah Willoughby.

The fundraiser has been set up by Danny Inglis following Teresa’s death on Tuesday.

Danny says on the page entitled ‘For Terry, Sam, Dionne, and Dottie’ it’s raising funds for Teresa “who was tragically taken from us. A woman that went through a personal ordeal but still gave back everything to the community with her constant fundraising.”

Danny, who is a friend of Teresa’s son Sam, said: “I just wanted to do something for them as they’re a lovely family who I’ve known for years.

“I set it up originally for funeral costs, not realising it was all paid for.

“But Sam has said they’d like to continue to fundraise for Breast Cancer Now so the money will go towards that.”
