It was a frustrating weekend for Gosberton’s Abbi Pulling in the latest round of the Formula One Academy.
She picked up seven points from Zandvoort in The Netherlands and was forced out of the last round following a crash.
The early signs were good as she was second quickest in free practice in her Rodin Carlin then sixth in the second session.
But qualifying was more disappointing as she left 11th and 12th on the grid.
She recovered well in race one quickly making up places before expertly navigated PREMA Racing’s Bianca Bustamante to finish in seventh.
Hamda Al Qubaisi dominated qualifying and race one to take the win.
Race two proved more frustrating for Pulling as despite again making up placings, she finished tenth in a race won by Carrie Schreiner who held off Al Qubaisi.
Al Qubaisi also won the third race of the weekend as Pulling had to retire.
She fell down the field early on and was forced to work her way back through the pack, overtaking Chloe Chong down the inside of turn one on lap two.
Schreiner, driving for ART Grand Prix, had shown excellent defensive skills on her way to her inaugural win and was at it again, holding off every move from Pulling.
Lola Lovinfosse had now slotted in behind Pulling and looked for an overtake down the inside, which the Brit was quick to cover off.
The pair made contact just a few corners later with both drivers spinning off the track and into the gravel, bringing an early end to both of their races and the safety car deployed.
Lovinfosse received a three-place grid penalty for the next race she takes part in after the stewards concluded that she caused the collision.
A spokesman for the Formula One Academy said: “Lovinfosse attempted to overtake Pulling on the right hand side of turn nine, but the move was put in late and the Rodin Carlin driver did not have time to take avoiding action.
“As a result, Lovinfosse made contact with the right rear corner of Pulling’s car, with both drivers ultimately retiring from the race.”
Pulling is fifth out 15 in the standings with three rounds to go, 66 points behind leader Marta Garcia of Spain.
The next round is at the famous Monza circuit in Italy on July 7 and 9.
