Bullish Holbeach United boss Gary Frost insists that it’s time Holbeach United started winning matches.
The Tigers are currently bottom of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North after suffering nine defeats from their 11 games so far – including last weekend’s 4-0 thumping by Gresley Rovers.
This Saturday sees the start of a key run of games for Holbeach, as they visit mid-table Leicester Nirvana (3pm) before matches against fellow strugglers Selston (November 13) and Sleaford Town (November 20).
Frost, who won his first game in charge of the Tigers 5-0 at Blackstones in the Lincs FA Senior Trophy, admits that his side need to break their duck in the league at the earliest opportunity.
“We need to win on Saturday,” said the former Boston Town boss. “There’s no point me trying to deny it, wins are vital given our position and we’ve got a favourable run of games now.
“Yes, we’re bottom of the table. But we’re not adrift at this point, so if we can get a few wins on the board the situation will look much better.
“At this point, it’s all about the league for us. There’s no point us doing well in cups but getting relegated, that’s not something I want.
“The league is our bread and butter and staying up is the only aim. To do that, we’ve got to start winning games – and now.
“I said that Gresley were too much for us last week, but Nirvana, Selston and Sleaford in our next three are matches against rivals.
“We need to focus on forging a style of play, becoming a group and getting points on the board.
“I know a few things about Nirvana, but the truth is that I’m only concerning myself with what we’re going to do at the moment. If we can play like we did in fleeting spells against Gresley, I’m sure we’ll get a result.”
Frost has brought in a number of new players in his first few weeks in the Holbeach hot-seat, including club legends Ian Dunn and Matt Warfield.
Last week he sealed a deal for another former Tiger in the shape of Jake Clitheroe, who started the defeat against Gresley.
The Holbeach chief hopes to add a few more fresh faces to his squad and admits that he has several irons in the fire, but is pleased to have Clitheroe in his ranks – even if he’s unsure how often he’ll be available.
“It was nice to have Jake in the squad,” added Frost. “He’s a very good player and I know he been a popular player here in the past.
“I’m not 100 per cent sure how regularly we’re going to have him, but I’m hoping he’ll want to play more often than not.
“That’s up to him, we certainly want him involved but I’m just unsure of his availability on a regular basis.
“I’m hoping to be able to announce two more signings next week and we’ve got plenty of approaches in for others.
“I spoke to a few targets last week after making seven-day approaches, but they didn’t really want to come here. It’s a hard sell for some given we’re bottom of the league, which isn’t a surprise.
“But I’ll keep trying to improve the squad.”
Barring injured keeper Ricky Drury, Frost hopes to have a full squad available for the trip to Leicester Nirvana, with Warfield, Dunn and Stacy Cartwright all back in contention.
