Spalding United set for tough test against table-topping Halesowen Town

Spalding United face one of the toughest tests in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division on Saturday when they welcome leaders Halesowen Town (3pm).

Halesowen have proved to be the early pace-setters in the division, but have been reeled in by Carlton Town and Chasetown in recent weeks, with the trio level on 30 points after 13 games.

The Yeltz have lost just once in the league all season and are unbeaten away from The Grove so far in seven matches.

Gaby Zakuani’s Spalding, meanwhile, go into the clash some ten points back in ninth position after back-to-back league losses against Belper Town (3-0) and Sporting Khalsa (2-0).

They did, however, put in a fine showing against Tamworth in the FA Trophy last weekend (see page 29) before losing on penalties.

Key defender Nathan Stainfield is pushing for a recall after returning as a late substitute against Tamworth.

Meanwhile, star man Marcus Maddison is again a doubt with the injury that has kept him out since late September.
