Freezing conditions hit fixtures

The freezing conditions meant virtually all of South Holland’s sports outdoor weekend fixtures were postponed.

There were no hockey or rugby games played by the area’s sides.

In football, both Spalding United and Holbeach United were called off.

The Tulips are scheduled to be back in action this weekend at Daventry Town in what is a 2pm kick off this Saturday.

Daventry are fourth from bottom and Spalding will be looking to extend the only unbeaten record in the level ahead of Christmas.

It’s followed by a Linconlshire Senior Trophy second round tie with Boston United at The Sir Halley Stewart on Tuesday night in a 7.45pm kick off.

Last Saturday’s scheduled fixture with Hinckley Leicester Road will now take place on Saturday, February 11.

Holbeach United’s trip to Leiston Reserves last Saturday will also have to be rescheduled.

The Tigers are meant to be back on the road this coming Saturday with Huntingdon Town their opponents.

There were a few games played in the Peterborough and District League, but only one of the South Holland sides featured.

Holbeach Back went down 7-2 at Hampton United in Division Four.

The visitors were level at the break after goals from Mitchell Johnson and James Scott.

But a Holbeach side who could only name two substitutes conceded five times in the second period.
