Fifty five years after they shared a Spalding stage with Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Pink Floyd, a local band is repeating the trick with another classic 60s band this Saturday.
The Swinging Blue Jeans are heading to the South Holland Centre at the weekend and they’ll be joined there by local band Sounds Force 5 who famously played at the Barbecue 67 festival held in the town.
Famous for such 60s classics as Hippy Hippy Shake and Good Golly Miss Molly, the Swinging Blue Jeans are one of the most exciting and entertaining 60s bands still touring today.
They are part of the live concerts scheduled to appear at the South Holland Centre in Spalding Market Place by Colin Ward of LIVE Promotions, a local company.
For this show, Colin will join fellow Spalding musicians on stage with Sounds Force 5, the local band who shot to regional fame when they appeared at the now legendary Barbecue 67, along with Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Syd Barrett.
Colin said: “There’s hardly a week goes by without any one asking…did Jimi Hendrix really play here in Spalding?”
“But it’s good to be bringing such a class act to the town as the Swinging Blue Jeans, and it will be just great to get back on stage myself.”
Tickets costing £25 are available on the South Holland Centre web site www southhollandcentre.co.uk
A spokesman for the South Holland Centre said of The Swinging Blue Jeans: “Together Alan Lovell, Peter Oakman, Graham Hollingworth and Jeff Bannister, will have you swinging in the aisles on a night you won’t forget.
“With such talent they are without doubt, one of the most exciting bands touring the 60s circuit to this day.”
