Looking for a traditional, old-English style pub with great food and bags of atmosphere? Then look no further!

Ye Olde Red Lion at Bicker ticks all these boxes and more.

My husband Dan and I enjoyed dinner there on Saturday night with our friends Sharon and Gareth.

We originally found the restaurant when we were looking for somewhere to eat between our home in Holbeach and theirs in Sleaford and it’s fast becoming our favourite place to meet up – the food never disappoints!

The staff are friendly and attentive while remaining professional and polite.

When we arrived we sat in the bar with a drink while we looked over the menus.

With so many delicious sounding dishes on offer it wasn’t an easy decision.

We eventually settled on Savoury Goats Cheesecake (£5.95) for the ladies (pictured above left), Pan Fried Fresh Scallops (£7.95) for Gareth and Broccoli and Stilton Soup (£4.95) for Dan.

For main course I opted for Pan Fried Local Venison Loin (£17.95), which was served on a potato rosti with roasted chestnut puree, fig jam and field vegetables (above right), while the rest of our party all chose the Red Lion Gourmet Steak Burger (£11.95), served with homemade chips, dressed leaves, cabbage slaw and a choice of cheese (top right).

We tucked in and all agreed the food was absolutely delicious.

After that we were all pretty full but a quick look at the dessert menu and temptation proved too much so we ordered two Poached Pear and Lemon Creme Brulees (£5.95), a Dark Chocolate Parfait (£5.95) (bottom right) and a Morello Cherry Ice Cream (£4.95).

Ye Olde Red Lion is the recipient of a highly commended pub of the year award from Select Lincolnshire, has a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor and has received a gold award from Lincolnshire Today magazine, in recognition of outstanding quality and service – and I can see why.

There is a range of menus for all tastes and budgets including a special tapas offer on Wednesday nights, a Lincolnshire tapas menu, a lunch menu, the restaurant menu that we dined from, and a Sunday carvery.

There are several special events coming up including a three-course Valentine’s Day meal for £29.99, a quiz night on February 1 and a Lincolnshire Game Night, which offers a five-course taster menu for £25, live music on February 26 and an Irish menu and Irish supper for £10 to celebrate, St Patrick’s Day on March 17.
