Fish make welcome return as Kilby claims big triumph at Tydd Gote AC meeting

In what was likely to be the last Sunday match before lockdown, Tydd Gote Angling Club were pleased to see a few more fish turn up at the Main Road stretch.

In blustery but relatively mild conditions, Mike Smith (end peg eight) and Andrew Kilby next door on seven found themselves into small silvers from the off to pinkie over groundbait.

They kept them coming pretty much throughout the match, with Kilby particularly capitalising on the feeding fish.

Elsewhere, things were slow with just the odd fish showing until two hours in when they appeared for Pete Emery on peg six and then Steve Borrett on five.

At the weigh in, Kilby put an impressive 11lb 2oz on the scales to take the win, with Borrett taking second with 7lb 7oz.

Behind them, Smith was third on 6lb 13.5oz and Emery managed fourth on 6lb 7oz.

Wednesday Open/Club match result – 1st John Taylor 12oz; 2nd Ian Benton 3.5oz; 3rd Andy Toogood 1oz.

  • Holbeach and District Angling Club were back in action at Sharp’s Bridge on Sunday.

First place went to Andy Goodger with an impressive net of 14lb 5oz from end peg 22.

Some way back in second spot was Chris Newton from peg 14 with a surprisingly good weight of 10lb 11oz in a hard area – with the next peg going home early.

The top three was completed by Robert Newton with a more than reasonable 9lb 12 from peg 20.
